Recipe: Not Your Average Oatmeal

Like other breakfasts, this is an easy recipe. Oatmeal doesn't have to take a lot of work, but it doesn't have to be bland either. Fruits, nuts, milk, cinnamon, honey and real maple syrup go particularly well with oatmeal.

You will notice that there are a lot of different types of oatmeal out there. Quick cooking, which you can microwave, is okay, but the original slow cooking kind will be less processed.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of your favorite kind of Oatmeal.
  • Water, as directed on the package
  • Add-ins that you like. Some combos that we like include:
    • 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon, milk (your preference on how much - we use about a 1/2 cup)
  • 1 handful of Blueberries, milk, and chopped Almonds.
  • 1/2 a handful of Raisins, 1 Apple (chopped), 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon and a drizzle of Maple Syrup.
  • A drizzle of Honey, a handful of blueberries and a little bit of milk.

To Make: Cook the Oatmeal according to the directions given on the packaging. Once cooked, add your choices of spices, flavorings, fruits and nuts. Mix it all together. If you are adding Milk, add it last and mix again.
