Recipe: Meat Sauce

Meat Sauce is easy.  The question is what do you serve it with.  We are so used to eating giant bowls of pasta with a bit of sauce over the top.  Why?  Because it is easy?  Why not a meal of meat and some sauce with vegetables on the side (or mixed in, whatever you like)?  That's easy.

You need:

  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp of olive oil
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 2 lbs of ground beef (or any other ground meat you like to use)
  • 1 small jar of natural, no sugar added tomato sauce (herb flavored is fine, just avoid the extra sugar and processing materials).

To Make:

  1. Heat the olive oil in a pan, add onions and a pinch of salt and pepper.  Cook until onions are translucent.
  2. Add garlic, cook for another 30 seconds.
  3. Turn heat to medium, add beef and cook, stirring occasionally.
  4. When beef is cooked, drain the liquid from the pan and add sauce.  Mix together, turn heat down and allow the sauce and meat to simmer together for a few minutes.
  5. Take it down with a side salad or steamed vegetables and bit of rice.
